The associationbetweenoestrogenandbreastcancerhasbeendemonstratedforoveracenturyhowevertheexactcellular mechanismsbywhichoestrogenplayaroleinbreastcancerdevelopmenthasnotbeenfullyestablished.Recentinvestigationshave shownthatoestrogenisinvolvedinmanyaspectsofcancerprogression.Thisreviewevaluateshowoestrogenatthecellularlevel inducesorpromotestheprocessofbreastcarcinogenesisthroughitsactionatmultiplelevelsofcancerpathogenesislikecellular proliferation,inhibitionapoptosis,angiogenesisandinvasion-metastasis.Therapeuticapproachesagainstthesemechanismsbythe useofanti-oestrogensandtheireffectivenessarealsoreviewedandareasrequiringfurtherinvestigationarehighlighted
